WHAT IS IT?
The patella (knee cap) connects to the tibia via the patellar tendon. Continuous overloading of this tendon can cause irritation and swelling as the body attempts to repair the damage.
SYMPTOMS
Sharp pain located between the patella and tibia present during exercises involving bending of the knee, which develops into a dull ache with cessation of the activity. The pain worsens with an increase in intensity or frequency of activity and may become present even when resting
TREATMENT
Increasing the strength and flexibility of the quadriceps muscles are effective methods of treatment.
