WHAT IS IT?
The sciatic nerve runs from the gluteal region, down the back of the leg, behind the knee, and all the way to the bottom of the foot. Most often, the piriformis muscle, which lies deep in the gluteal region and directly overtop of the sciatic nerve, compresses and puts pressure on the nerve.
Shooting pain is felt in the gluteal region and down the back of the leg. Pain worsens when seated for long period of time.
