The right pair of supportive insoles in your ski boots can make all the difference to your enjoyment on the mountain. Skiing is demanding on the body, requiring coordinated strength and movement that all starts with your feet. Many people suffer through sore feet in ski boots, but foot pain doesn’t have to be par for the course.

From preventing fatigue and pain so you can ski longer, to improving your balance, helping you feel more connected to your skis and more. There are many reasons to grab a pair of insoles for your ski boots. But what should you be looking for? And which insoles are best? Do you need custom insoles?

Let’s discuss these points, and find out why SOLE custom moldable footbeds are the best option for any skier.

Arch support insoles for ski boots.

Skiing requires many forces working in tandem to shift your weight and energy through your skis. All these forces and energy must be transferred from your body to your skis in one place: through your feet.

It’s no surprise that feet can get tired and sore quickly. An insole with the right amount of arch support helps the feet carry the load of this excess strain by literally supporting your foot from underneath.

SOLE footbeds feature our Signature Supportive Shape, with a supportive arch that’s clinically proven to reduce strain in the feet by an average of 34%. Less strain means less fatigue. Less fatigue means less pain.

This arch support is especially effective for anyone who suffers from plantar fasciitis

Insoles for comfort in ski boots.

Ski boots are hard and rigid. They have to be, for efficient energy transfer. But that doesn’t make them comfortable. Wearing a ski boot is a bit like sitting on a wooden bench. It’s designed for utility, not for comfort.

When you add a SOLE footbed to your ski boots you turn that wooden bench into an ergonomic office chair, getting all the support you need, exactly where you need it. SOLE insoles feature arch support as well as a deep heel cup to cradle the heel and offer support for your whole foot.

When you wear our footbeds your foot feels like it’s being hugged from beneath, along all its contours. This targeted support helps you feel comfortable over a long day on the mountain.

This supportive comfort also gets better the more your wear it, as it custom molds to your feet.

Custom moldable insoles for ski boots.

Custom moldable insoles are the best option for ski boots. There are many options for custom footbeds, but many are expensive and require visiting a store.

SOLE footbeds are custom heat moldable to your unique feet in just a couple of minutes using your oven at home. Or skip the heat molding and just wear them! The footbeds will conform to your feet over a few days of wear.

Once molded to your feet, the insoles act as a dynamic second skin, staying in constant even contact with the bottom of your feet. This helps distribute pressure evenly across the surface of your feet to prevent pressure points and hot spots.

A custom molded supportive insole just makes your ski boots that much more comfortable, and with SOLE footbeds you can get custom support at an over-the-counter price. As an added bonus to feet that feel better in your boots, custom molded footbeds can actually help improve your skiing.

Improve your skiing with custom supportive insoles.

Once molded to your feet, SOLE footbeds help you feel more connected to your skis by hugging your feet within the boot. The even contact with the bottom of your feet also helps to improve the efficiency of energy transfer, with less energy being lost in your boots as you turn.

The combination of arch support and a deep heel cup also helps to promote neutral alignment in your lower body while you ski. This means you are skiing on a stable base, promoting good balance and protecting your knees, hips and back from excess strain.

Proper alignment in your boots helps to maximize efficiency throughout your body’s chain of movement, a key factor in aggressive turns, carving and rotational maneuvers in the park. Having support beneath your feet also helps your feet and body absorb the impact of landings.

We're proud to partner with Freestyle BC to help bring these numerous benefits to skiers in our home province!

Which SOLE footbeds are best for ski boots?

SOLE footbeds come in three thicknesses. Thin, Medium and Thick. We usually recommend our Thin footbeds for ski boots, as they take up the least amount of space in your boots.

If you’re a freestyle skier, or someone who enjoys a lot of side hits and jumps while ripping all-mountain terrain, you might want to consider a Medium footbed. These include a layer of cushioning foam to help absorb impact. Medium footbeds will take up more space in your boots though, measuring around 4.5mm thick in total.

Don’t forget that all SOLE footbeds come with a 90 day satisfaction guarantee, so you can always swap out a Medium for a Thin or vice versa if they don’t fit just right.

There are a couple more options to consider! Read on.

Ski insoles with metatarsal pads for numb toes.

Due to the tight and confined nature of ski boots, many people can suffer from a sense of being cramped in their boots. Tingling toes and numbness in the forefoot are common as circulation is cut off in your boots.

Adding an insoles with a built-in metatarsal pad to your ski boots can make a big difference to the comfort of your forefoot in your boots.

A metatarsal pad is a small bump in the insole, positioned to support the foot’s transverse arch (the arch that runs across your foot, kind of like the hollow of your palm). This bump promotes natural spread between the foot’s bones.

A Met Pad footbed is especially effective for anyone who suffers from morton’s neuroma or metatarsalgia, or anyone who gets discomfort in their toes or forefoot while they ski.

The metatarsal pad can also go a long way to help make your boots feel less cramped and more spacious, by supporting the middle of your foot from beneath.

Cork insoles keep feet warm in ski boots.

Another option in SOLE footbeds for skiers is our Performance footbeds, made from recycled wine corks. We launched our own wine cork recycling program, ReCORK, in 2008 to collect and repurpose used wine corks.

Our Performance footbeds are super sustainable, but the best benefit for skiers is their insulating nature. Cork is a natural thermal insulator, preventing heat from escaping through the bottom of your boots.

If you suffer from cold feet on the mountain, we recommend trying our Performance footbeds in your ski boots!

Ski insoles for flat feet or high arches!

Whatever your choice of SOLE footbed you can rest assured that they will work for any arch height. The footbeds will come with a high supportive arch that’s perfect for anybody with high arches.

If you have medium arches, low arches or flat feet, the footbeds will adapt to your arch height as they mold to your feet. This means you get the right amount of support for your individual feet in your ski boots.

If you have flat feet we recommend you heat mold the footbeds to ensure a quick adjustment to your feet. The heat molding process can be repeated a couple of times if needed!

Whatever your specific needs, there's a SOLE footbed that will work excellently in your ski boots to increase your comfort on the mountain, so you can focus on having fun!
